NoBull Burgers: The Ultimate Veggie Burger

by Anne Paddock

There are two camps of people in the vegan burger market:  those who want a great tasting veggie burger and those who want a meat imitator.  I belong to the veggie burger segment and have spent years trying to find the best veggie burger:  both store bought and homemade in the hopes of finding the holy grail of veggie burgers.  It’s been a long road.

Ingredients matter so making my own veggie burger with beans, rice, onions, spices, lentils, mushrooms, zucchini, and other veggies and grains seems to be a good idea but I’ve yet to find a recipe that makes a moist, delicious, and healthy veggie burger with an abundance of flavor (and that doesn’t fall apart).  Frozen veggie burgers have been a disappointment in that most are greasy or have ingredients I try to avoid (i.e. oils, fillers, and ingredients I can’t pronounce) until recently when I discovered the NoBull Veggie Burger:  a whole food, real food veggie burger.

The NoBull Veggie Burger got its name with the claim there is no bull crap ingredients which is unique in the market today because there are few or none that use organic and all natural ingredients you can actually feel good about eating (most ingredients of the NoBull Veggie Burger can be found in a typical kitchen pantry).

The base of the NoBull Veggie Burger is organic green lentils, organic brown rice, onions, organic spinach, chick pea flour, chick pea protein, tamari, and organic chia seeds to which other real food ingredients and spices are added to make 5 different flavor veggie burgers.

  • Original:  made with organic green lentils, organic brown rice, organic carrots, onions, organic spinach, tamari, organic quinoa, chick pea flour, chick pea protein, water and organic chia seeds.
  • Savory Mushroom (my personal favorite):  made with organic green lentils, organic brown rice, organic quinoa, organic white mushrooms, shiitake mushrooms, onions, organic spinach, chick pea flour, chick pea protein, tamari, organic chia seeds, and garlic
  • Sun-Dried Tomato:  made with organic green lentils, organic brown rice, sun-dried tomatoes, organic spinach, chick pea flour, tamari, organic tomato paste, organic chia seeds, water, chick pea protein, and celery seed
  • Spicy Itallian:  made with organic green lentils, organic brown rice, tomatoes, onions, organic spinach, red and green sweet peppers, chick pea flour, water, tamari, chickpea protein, organic chia seeds, fennel seed, garlic, red pepper flakes, organic Italian seasoning (oregano, thyme, basil, rosemary, sage)
  • Madras Curry:  made with organic green lentils, organic brown rice, organic sweet potato, organic quinoa, onions, organic spinach, chick pea flour, organic coconut milk, water, chick pea protein, organic chia seed, madras curry powder, organic tomato paste, garlic, and sea salt.

The NoBull Veggie Burger can be purchased in the frozen section at Whole Foods Markets, Erewhon, Mom’s Organic Market, Mother’s Market Kitchen, and Natural Grocers.  2 individually wrapped 4-ounce burgers are in each box that retail for about $5.  Simply defrost and bake at 400 degrees for 12 minutes. Place on a whole grain roll with lettuce, tomato, avocado, pickles, ketchup and whatever accompaniments you want, and enjoy.
