Executive Compensation at Trinity Health (2023)

Trinity Health is a tax-exempt non-profit Catholic healthcare system that employs more than 38,000 physicians and 107,000 others in 93 hospitals, 142 urgent care centers, 126 senior care centers, and numerous continuing healthcare locations in 26 states. Based in Livonia, Michigan, Trinity Health includes hundreds of related and affiliated organizations. This post reports the executive compensation at Trinity Health Corporation (THC), which overseas the entire healthcare system.

Governed by 15 directors (14 of whom are independent), THC has a board made up of 9 women and 6 men.

In 2023, THC reported total revenue of $2.6 billion, most of which ($2.1 billion) came from “subsidiary fees” which is what the related/affiliated organizations pay THC to manage the entire healthcare system.

Expenses totaled $2.3 billion  (not including $184 million in depreciation) with the largest expenses reported to be compensation ($1 billion) and office-related and equipment maintenance expenses ($751 million).

Net assets ( of a health management entity) were $1.2 billion at year-end 2023.

8,992 employees (900 more than the prior year)  received $1 billion in compensation, which equates to an average compensation of $113,000. However, only 2,323 employees received more than $100,000 in compensation with the 15 most highly compensated reported to be:

The 15 most highly compensated employees received $30 million. 9 of the 10 most highly compensated employees are male. 13 of the 15 (87%) most highly compensated employees are male while 2 of the 15 (13%) are female.

The most highly compensated employee was Michael Slubowski, the President and CEO who received $5.3 million in compensation in 2023.
