10 Executives Received $40 Million in Compensation at the National Basketball Players Association

10 employees of the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) received $40 million in compensation from 2016-2023 (although several employees were only at NBPA for 1-2 years).  The largest payout was to Michele Roberts, the former chief executive officer who retired in January, 2022 (although she recieved more than $3 million from 2022-2023).  The 10 most highly compensated employees in 2023 include  (note:  highly compensated employees in any of the years 2016-2022 but not in 2023 are not included): Read more »

The National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) is a tax-exempt, non-profit 501 (c) 5 – a trade union representing the 450 basketball players (30 teams with 15 players) in the NBA. Executive Compensation at Geisinger

Geisinger is a large integrated healthcare system with an estimated 24,000 employees working in 10 hospitals and numerous medical care facilities that primarily serve the central and northeastern Pennsylvania region.  Acquired by Risant Health, Geisinger is now a part of Kaiser Permanente (who counts Risant Health as a subsidiary).

In 2023, Geisinger was made up of many organizations:  20 tax-exempt entities, 11 taxable partnerships, and 13 taxable corporations or trusts.  These organizations contribute to an organization called Geisinger System Services who provides overall management services to the organizations that makeup Geisinger Health.  In 2023, these organizations paid nearly $800 million to Geisinger System Services, who spent most of that revenue on compensation ($404 million), office-related expenses ($160 million), and fees for outside services ($150 million). Executive Compensation at the Heritage Foundation (2023)

The Heritage Foundation (Heritage) is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization staffed by conservative “experts” who provide advice on political, economic, social, and financial problems in the United States, and published Project 2025 – “a roadmap for how to replace the rule of law with right-wing ideals,” according to the ACLU.

Based in Washington, DC, Heritage is governed by 17 voting members, of whom 16 are independent,  13 of the 17 (76%) are male while 4 of the 22 (24%) are female.

Heritage raises about $100 million annually, has historically spent less (usually about 70-80% although this was not the case in 2023) and has consequently accumulated $348 million in net assets by the end of 2023.
