Executive Compensation at Corewell Health (2023)

by Anne Paddock

Corewell Health (Corewell) is a tax-exempt, non-profit healthcare system – a 501 (c) 3 – that was formed in 2022 when Beaumont Health (based in Detroit, Michigan) merged with Spectrum Health (based in Grand Rapids, Michigan) with 21 hospitals and 300 outpatient locations staffed by 65,000 employees.

Corewell consists of 14 tax-exempt organizations, 7 organizations taxable as a partnership, and 32 organizations taxable as a corporation or trust.  This post reports the compensation of highly compensated employees as listed on the Corewell Health Group Return.  Key information about this organization is summarized as follows:

In 2023, Corewell reported total revenue of $10.4 billion, most of which came from patient care ($9.8 billion).

Expenses totaled $10.2 billion (including $428 million of depreciation) primarily comprised of compensation ($5 billion), medical supplies ($1.8 billion), fees for services ($1.6 billion), office-related expenses ($574 million), and bad-debt expenses ($449 million).

Net assets were reported to be $5.2 billion at year-end 2023.
