Executive Compensation at St Jude (2023)
When people think of St. Jude’s, they often associate the organization with the children’s research hospital but St Jude’s is actually two organizations:
- St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (St Jude): the 73-bed children’s hospital that provides research and medical care; and
- American Lebanese Syrian Associated Charities (ALSAC): the fundraising arm; an organization that exists to raise funds for St. Jude’s
Although most non-profits do not separate fundraising from services, St. Jude’s does, so both organizations need to be analyzed because St. Jude’s relies on ALSAC for the majority of it’s revenue and has a beneficial interest in the organization. Read more
Where Does $100 to St Jude Go (2023)?
St. Jude’s is one of the most popular non-profit organizations in the country because the charity’s mission appeals to donors: they treat and help children with cancer and other life threatening illnesses. But, before making donations, donors should understand where revenue is spent and that St. Jude’s is actually two organizations:
- St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Inc. (St. Jude) – the 73-bed hospital and research center
- American Lebanese Syrian Associated Charities (ALSAC) – the fundraiser
ALSAC “exists for the sole purpose of raising funds and building awareness to support the current and future needs of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Inc” while St. Jude engages in research and provides care and services to sick children and their families. Read more

Specifically, HHI has been operating since 1987 and focuses on “transforming and optimizing health” through a vegan diet that emphasizes the benefits of raw food. The cause is noble and commendable; the cost to attend which pays the 2 executive staff, Brian and Anna Maria Clement $1.6 million annually, is not.

In trying to understand how $100 is spent at FTC, it is important to consider what the organization primarily does: they collect non-cash contributions and distribute these items. So, if the $100 donation is a non-cash item, then the contribution is distributed to another organization (another non-profit that is probably in the USA). But, if the donation is cash, then the $100 is used to pay for the organization costs of FTC. So, there are two ways to look at how $100 is spent, both of which will be presented in the following paragraphs. Read more
Executive Compensation at Liberty University (2023)
Liberty University (Liberty) – a private evangelical Christian university based in Lynchburg, Virginia – has been in the news quite a bit over the past few years. Seems the US Department of Education has been investigating Liberty for violations related to the public reporting of campus crime. Faced with a large fine ($14 million), Liberty seems to be in the hot seat again (the Jerry Falwell, Jr sexual misconduct saga that resulted in Falwell’s resignation as President of the university hit the public forum in 2020), although $14 million is a drop in the bucket for Liberty who has nearly $4 billion in net assets.
