Executive Compensation at Feed the Children (2022)

Feed the Children (FTC) is a tax-exempt non-profit 501 (c) (3) based in Oklahoma City, OK.  Established in 1979, FTC is primarily engaged in obtaining and distributing food, medicine, and clothing to those in need through grants, primarily to non-profits in the USA.

FTC is governed by 11 independent voting members (directors) of the governing body (Board of Directors) (although the Form 990 lists 12 directors, 9 (75%) of whom are male and 3 (25%) whom are female.

In 2022, FTC reported total revenue of $388 million (about $200 million less than in 2021).  Most revenue (87%)  – $337 million – were non-cash contributions.  The $51 million in cash revenue came from contributions ($50 million) and investment income ($1 million),

In 2022, FTC collected $51 million in cash contributions, gifts, and grants and gains/investment income and spent $41 million on organization expenses and $7 million on cash grants,  leaving $3 million in cash revenue to make up the deficit between the amount of non-cash contributions ($337) and the amount of non-cash grants ($353 million).

Of the $41 million in organization expenses, $17 million was used to compensate the 242 employees (an average of $70,000).  13 employees received more than $100,000 in compensation with the 11 most highly compensated employees reported to be:

  • $427,661:  Travis Arnold, Director, CEO
  • $277,377:  Bregeita Jefferson, Chief International Operations Officer
  • $269,170:  Seintje Veldhuis, Regional Director, Africa
  • $237,507:  Gary Sloan, COO
  • $234,087:  Christy Tharp, CFO
  • $217,727:  Mike Panas, CIO
  • $206,891:  Bob Thomas, CAO
  • $199,019:  Becky Graninger, Chief Development and Marketing Officer (until 6/3/22)
  • $157,357:  Nancy Rew, VP of Marketing
  • $155,269:  David Walters, VP, Development
  • $152,770:  Marcello D Moss, SVP of HR

7 of the 11 (64%) most highly compensated employees are male while 4 of the 11 (36%) are female.

5 independent contractors received more than $100,000 in compensation:

  • $540,000:  WIN Marketing Group, of Plano, TX for advertising/media buys
  • $245,171:  Hogan Taylor LLP, of Lowell, AR, for audit and tax services
  • $232,203:  Mark Weimer, PC, of Oklahoma City, OK, for legal services
  • $231,538:  Adstra, LLC, of Pittsburgh, PA, for list acquisition services
  • $199,000:  MC Roofing Enterprises, Fort Thomas, KY, for construction
