When most people think of the NRA they think of the National Rifle Association of America and the second amendment (“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed”) but there are seven (7) separate non-profits that comprise the NRA:

- NRA Foundation, Inc.: 501 (c)(3)
- NRA Freedom Action Foundation: 501 (c)(3)
- NRA Civil Rights Defense Fund: 501 (c)(3)
- NRA Special Contribution Fund: 501 (c) (3)
- NRA Political Victory Fund: PAC Section 527
- NRA Victory Fund: PAC Section 527
Where Does $100 to Shriners Hospitals for Children Go (2021)?
Shriners Hospitals for Children is a network of hospitals, medical and satellite centers, outpatient facilities, ambulatory surgery care centers, and outreach centersthat provide specialized pediatric care (orthopedics, burn, spinal cord, and palate) for children under the age of 18. According to the Shriners website, all but 2 of the hospitals (Canada and Mexico) are located in the United States under two non-profit corporations:
- The Shriners Hospitals for Children (for 11 hospitals, 1 outpatient facility (Salt Lake City), 2 ambulatory surgery centers, and 4 clinics) – a Colorado corporation based in Tampa, Florida; and
- The Shriners Hospitals for Children (for 1 hospital and 1 outpatient facility in Massachusetts) – a Massachusetts corporation based in Tampa, Florida.
Where Does $100 to Save the Children Go (2022)
The Save the Children Fund is one of the most recognizable charitable organizations in the world. Established more than a hundred years ago in 1919, the organization is legally known as Save the Children Federation, Inc. in the United States, but is often simply referred to as “Save the Children.”
On the Save the Children website (www.savethechildren.org), the organization reports that “86% of all expenditures went straight to our mission” with the key word being “expenditures.” Expenses are normally analyzed as a percentage of revenue, not as a percentage of total expenditures because both parts of the equation – revenue and expenses – are important to understand how an organization is operating. Without revenue, it doesn’t matter how much of an organization’s expenditures were spent in a single category. Both sides of the equation have to be considered. Providence Health and Services – Washington (PH&S) is part of the Providence St Joseph Health (PSJH), a non-profit, tax-exempt integrated healthcare provider associated with the Catholic Church. With 51 hospitals and nearly 1,000 clinics staffed by 117,000 employees across seven western states (Washington, Oregon, Montana, New Mexico, California, Texas, and Alaska), the Providence St Joseph Health system came to be when PH&S merged with Providence St. Joseph Health (PSJH), in 2016. The National Retail Federation (NRF) is a non-profit, tax-exempt 501 (c) (6) – a membership based trade association – whose mission is to “advance and protect the interests of the retail industry and to help retailers achieve excellence in all areas of their business.” That’s quite a mission, given the retail environment in this country. Retailers – both national chains and local – view an on-line presence a virtual requirement for survival.
Governed by 30 board members, 29 of whom are independent (37 are reported on the Form 990 due to timing differences; 27 are male while 10 are female), NRF is based in Washington, DC. Read more
