Where Does $1 to Vita Nova, Inc. Go?

Vita Nova, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization based in West Palm Beach, Florida that operates three (3) programs to help youths 18-25 years old transition to independence. The three programs include:

  • Vita Nova Village: A residential (apartment) program that has a capacity of 29 young adults who age out of foster care yet still need assistance with life skills, education, employment, and counseling.
  • Independent Living Services: A program funded by the State of Florida to help young adults (16-25 years old) learn the skills and resources they will need to become independent adults.
  • The Oasis Center:  Provides a quick connection to work, housing, and healthcare assistance with county providers for young adults who didn’t come out of the foster care system or qualify for the Independent Living Services program.

The Hippocrates Health Institute (HHI) is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) that operates out of a 50-acre tropical setting in West Palm Beach, Florida that provides educational and instructional services to teach individuals how to live and eat healthier.  Specifically, HHI has been operating since 1987 and offers three programs:

Where does $1 to Feeding Children Everywhere go?

Feeding Children Everywhere is a Longwood, Florida-based non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization that does one thing exceptionally well: they make a wholesome, all-natural meal (with no artificial flavors, colors, or vitamin mix) called the “lentil casserole.” Made of lentils (60%), rice (30%), veggies (8%) and pink Himalayan salt (2%), the lentil casserole is a nutritionally sound meal full of protein, fiber, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals. Where does a donation to Kars4Kids Go?

Kars4Kids, Inc. (Kars4Kids) is a 501 (c) (3) national organization dedicated to the educational, material, emotional, and spiritual needs of Jewish children and their families. Specifically, Kars4Kids appears primarily to be the fundraising entity for another 501 (c) (3) organization called Oorah, Inc., based in Lakewood, New Jersey (with the same business address as Kars4Kids) although they also fund other programs – school placement, tuition assistance, summer camp, holiday food and gift packages, parent education and counseling.

Where Does $1 to 4-H go?

Most people know 4-H is a youth development organization but some may not know the national 4-H is administered by the National Institute of Food (NIFA) under the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) – federal government offices.

The national organization is also known as the National 4-H Council which overseas and assists the 3,000 local offices and 110 land-grant universities – universities granted federal land to focus teachings on agriculture, science, and engineering – to administer the organization’s programs. 4-H operates at the state and county level in the United States and although these offices operate independently as separate non-profits, they collectively administer 4-H programs. Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties and Giving

A community foundation is a tax-exempt, nonprofit, autonomous, publicly supported, nonsectarian philanthropic institution with a long term goal of building permanent, named component funds established by many separate donors for the broad-based charitable benefit of the residents of a defined geographic area, typically no larger than a state.

The Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties (Community Foundation) collects and invests charitable donations, serves as a philanthropic advisor,  and is “dedicated to serving the community’s needs” by awarding grants to non-profit organizations in five areas:  arts and culture, education, environment, family, and health and wellness. Where does $1 to United Way of Palm Beach County go?

United Way of Palm Beach County (UWPBC) is just one of 35 United Way chapters in Florida and one of 1,256 chapters in the United States, but this South Florida chapter office raised more than $15.3 million last year and distributed $11.4 million (75%) in grants to both local, state, and national organizations.

Focusing on education, income, and health, each local United Way office/chapter acts as a community oversight committee by collecting revenue and making grants to other non-profit organizations that provide needed services or goods. Read more »

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) works to ensure the safety and protection of animals through education, animal health services, anti-cruelty operations, community outreach, disaster/emergency services, and government relations. Where does $1 to the American Heart Association Go?

Heart disease is the number one cause of death in the United States with more than 600,000 people succumbing annually to this preventable and treatable disease in the US. Although advances in medicine have contributed to both an overall decrease in the annual number of deaths (860,000 in 1950) and the number of deaths per 100,000 population (589 sixty-five years ago compared to 170 in 2013) since 1950, the country’s biggest killer is hard to tame. Medical and pharmaceutical research along with information garnered from studies on diet and exercise have greatly contributed to this improvement but we still have a long way to go. Read more »

Where does $1 to American Homeless Vets go?

This past week, my phone rang and a woman identifying herself as “Laurie” from “American Homeless Vets” was calling to request a donation. The organization is actually the Center for American Homeless Veterans but doing business as American Homeless and Disabled Veterans (AHDV) and also known as the Association for Homeless and Disabled Veterans. Sound confusing?  It is but the mission of the organization is very clear. AHDV is an advocacy organization (a non-profit 501 (c) (4)) that educates the public about homeless veterans and creating awareness of solutions to this problem. They publish, print, and distribute The Veteran’s Vision and they outreach to congress regarding the needs of homeless veterans. Read more »
