16 Executives at AARP Take Home $84 Million in Compensation

Executive Compensation at AARP (2024)

AARP – the American Association of Retired Persons – is a tax-exempt, non-profit organization who offers a broad mission:  “to empower people to choose how they live as they age” but more specifically focuses on the issues and benefits of those 50 years and older.  With an estimated 38 million members who pay $15-$20 annually, AARP is one of the largest non-profit member-based organizations in the country.  However, revenue from membership dues was $371 million which appears to indicate total membership is about 25 million (based o $15 annually).

Based in Washington, DC, AARP has 12 voting members in its governing body, 11 of whom are independent; although 14 are listed on the most recent Form 990 (2023); 7 of whom are female while 7 are male. Read more »

How Revenue is Spent at AARP (2024)

AARP – the American Association of Retired Persons – is a tax-exempt, non-profit organization who offers a broad mission:  “to empower people to choose how they live as they age” but more specifically focuses on the issues and benefits of those 50 years and older.

With an estimated 38 million members who pay $15-$20 annually, AARP is one of the largest non-profit member-based organizations in the country. However, membership dues are not the main source of AARP’s revenue and expenses are not dominated by member services. Instead, AARP relies primarily on royalties for revenue with expenses dominated by compensation and advertising/promotion.

$19 a Month to the ASPCA: How Much Goes to Vet Services (2024)

If you donated $19 a month to the ASPCA in 2024 and want to know how your donation was spent, know that:

  • $9 went to pay staff, office-related expenses, travel and conferences;
  • $6 went to pay advertising and promotion and fees for outside services, including professional fundraisers, and miscellaneous expenses;
  • $2 out of every $19 was spent on veterinary services, operating supplies, and grants to other non-profits whose mission is to help protect animals;  leaving

America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) is a tax-exempt, non-profit 501 (c) 6 – a trade organization – representing health insurance companies that provide coverage through employers, Medicare Advantage, Medicaid managed care, and open market plans that provide individual coverage.

  • $49 went to pay staff, office-related expenses, travel and conferences.
  • $26 went to pay advertising and promotion and fees for outside services, including professional fundraisers.
