Bola Granola

Como mola” (meaning “how cool”) is what my daughter would say in Spain when something impressed her and those are the first words I thought of when I tasted Bola Granola – the crunchiest granola I’ve ever had the pleasure of eating. Bola Granola has a catchy name that is fun to say but the real joy is the super crunchy granola in the bag.

One bite of this all organic grain granola brings a cornucopia of flavors:  a mildly sweet and salty blend of toasty oats and nuts. Early Bird Granola

Grocers are slowly dedicating more space in the cereal aisle to granolas although this oat-based cereal is no longer limited to being a breakfast food. These days we also sprinkle granola over frozen yogurt, gelato or ice cream and eat this healthy treat as a snack. There are dozens of types of granola available as we all have our preferences with mine being heavy on the oats and nuts. So, when I came upon a bag of Farmhand’s Choice Granola by Early Bird Foods & Co., I immediately read the label, which listed the following ingredients:  organic rolled oats, toasted organic coconut, organic pepitas (pumpkin or squash seeds), organic sunflower seeds, fancy pecans, real maple syrup, extra virgin olive oil, organic brown sugar, and salt. Bring Forth the Granola

When I was growing up, the only people I knew that ate granola were hippies and our neighbors from California (who incidentally also had the only vegetable garden in the neighborhood, took vitamins, shopped at a health food store, and made brownies and pancakes from scratch…how weird is that?).  The rest of us ate Lucky Charms with day-glow marshmallows, Captain Crunch (I especially liked the kind with crunch berries), Frosted Flakes, Kix, Cheerios, and for a healthy choice:  Shredded Wheat.
