The American Bankers Association (ABA) is a non-profit 501 (c) (6) organization – “a business league that pushes advocacy, provides education, products, and solutions to its membership and the financial services industry.” In other words, the ABA is a tax-exempt association for banks, savings and loans, and trust companies. Based in Washington, DC the ABA engages in lobbying, works to establish banking standards, and educates the public and its members.
While some people think of non-profits as almost an afterthought, the ABA is anything but insignificant. The ABA raises about $175 million annually, typically spends less than it brings in, and has accumulated more than $700 million in net assets. Read more

BayCare (Baycare Health System) is one of the largest healthcare systems in Florida. Headquartered in Clearwater with 16 hospitals, 18 urgent care centers, 4 surgery centers, 15 imaging facilities, 208 primary care and physician practice locations, and more than 30 walk-in health care facilities in Publix supermarkets throughout Tampa Bay and West Central Florida, BayCare serves the Tampa Bay and western-central regions of Florida.
BayCare consists of dozens of other organizations (30 tax-exempt organizations, 4 taxable partnerships, and 7 taxable corporations and trusts), who pay a “management fee” to a tax-exempt, non-profit entity called “Baycare Health Systems, Inc” (BHSI).
