Mavuno Harvest Organic Dried Fruit

by Anne Paddock

The story of Mavuno Harvest began when Phil Hughes served as a Peace Corps volunteer in a tiny village in Kenya. The population was primarily dependent upon agriculture for their livelihood but there was little infrastructure to get many of the products from the farm to the consumer which meant that many farmers sold their crops at below market prices.

Seeing an opportunity for both the farmers and the consumers, trailblazer Hughes created Mavuno (meaning “yield”) Harvest by working with small farming cooperatives to take organically grown fruit, dry it, and package it for the consumer.

Non-GMO and certified organic by the USDA, Mavuno Harvest Organic Dried Fruits have one ingredient per package:  Mango, Banana, Papaya, Pineapple, Jackfruit, or Coconut. The Organic Tropical Mix contains three fruits:  Mango, Pineapple, and Banana. That’s it. Mother Nature’s fruits.

Mavuno Harvest Organic Dried Fruits are packaged in 2 ounce resealable packets that sell for $3 -$4 each, depending on the retailer.  Buy directly from Mavuno Harvest (www.mavunoharvest.com) and the packets are $3.99 each with free shipping for all orders over $30. Case packages (6 packets) are also available for about $22.99.  Vitacost (www.vitacost.com) also sells Mavuno Harvest Organic Dried Fruits for $3.99 each but the site has constant promotions ranging from 10-20% off so sign up for the promotions.
