Vegan Dining Options in Asheville, NC (Part 5)

by Anne Paddock

Asheville has an abundance of dining options including speciality places where plant-based devotees can enjoy a melt-in-your-mouth doughnut or a creamy, rich chocolate truffle, a piece of moist dark chocolate cake, cold-pressed juices, smoothies, chocolate chip cookies, homemade pies, freshly made soft pretzels, and more. Scroll through these culinary destination hot spots and then make some plans to taste the flavors of Asheville.

Vortex Doughnuts makes the best vegan doughnuts in North Carolina, the eastern seacoast and possibly the whole country (I haven’t tasted vegan doughnuts in every state yet). Light, airy, melt-in-your-mouth delicious, these doughnuts are positively addicting. I’ve given these doughnuts to non-vegans (and didn’t disclose they were vegan) who’ve offered me their firstborn for another (just kidding).

Blunt Pretzels is not technically in Asheville, having been housed at 133 S Main Street in Marshall, North Carolina (about 20 miles north of downtown Asheville) since last November but if there’s an event going on in Asheville, then the chances are Blunt Pretzels will be selling their German-style hand rolled soft pretzels. Very lightly salted, Blunt Pretzels are slightly crunch on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside.

The store is open four days during the week but on weekends, Blunt Pretzels is busy at Asheville area events (i.e. concerts, festivals, markets, etc).
