10 Gifts for the Busy Mom
I hear you. Raising kids and running a house keep me busy, too. I also have this little gig on the side called a full time job.
Finding just the right gift for the busy mom can be a challenge. Most moms usually have three things on their minds – family, work, and dinner – so the idea is how to make these three super important parts of her life easier and a bit more relaxing. With that in mind, here are ten gift ideas for the busy mom who doesn’t have enough hours in the day to get everything done: Read more
Keeping Up With The Lingo
Last week my husband I were traveling and spent a lot of time in hotels which naturally led to watching television, which we rarely do. While viewing a golf tournament, a commercial for Trojan condoms aired featuring Lil Dicky (a rapper, according to Wikipedia) who closed the ad by saying “Trojan Bareskin Condoms are so sick” which left me perplexed. In my generation, the word “sick” meant ill, unwell, or about to vomit so why would anyone describe a condom as less than perfect or up for the job? Because to the younger generation, “sick” apparently means cool, awesome, or really good so who better than a guy named Lil Dicky to endorse Trojans? Read more
The Top Ten Nutrition Resources
Why don’t physicians offer the plant-based nutrition option to their patients?
1. They are not taught nutrition and are unfamiliar with the efficacy of a plant-based approach.
2. They don’t have time for patient nutritional counseling.
3. They often lack the skill set for behavioral modification.
4. Insurance support for counseling is sparse.
5. The status quo offers a handsome income stream.~Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, MD
Finding “good” nutritional information is difficult primarily because cultural, educational, economic, political, pharmaceutical, medical and food industry influences get in the way of consumers finding this valuable information. Read more
“What the Fuck is Wrong With You?”
Moby – the multi-talented artist (singer, songwriter, musician) that hails from New York wrote a letter to America the day after the US elections asking what the fuck is wrong with us for electing Trump president. Putting aside the fact that Clinton won the popular vote with an early estimate of 62.8 million votes (50.5%) compared to Trump with 61.5 million votes (49.5%) and that a presidential candidate only has to win 11 states (and not get a single vote in 39 states) to get 270 electoral votes to win the election, Moby makes some points. If I Were President…..
Have you ever wondered what you would do if you were President? Assuming that Congress, the Senate and the Judiciary had to go along with executive orders (most people would call that a dictatorship but for just a moment, let’s just call it wishful thinking), there are ten things I would address right away, most of which cut across all party lines: Read more
Who To Trust For Nutrition Advice?
Lifestyle choices are one of three aspects (the others being genetics and the environment) that greatly affect our health. We can’t pick our parents and environmental factors are not wholly within our control but we can focus on lifestyle choices that affect our health so who do we turn to for advice?
Everyone has an opinion about diet and nutrition which makes the amount of information to sift through a monumental and often overwhelming task that typically leads to confusion – which is just what the industries who are threatened by the power of nutrition want. Read more
THE NIH and Nutrition
When people hear the letters “NIH” they often think of the National Institutes of Health which is not one center but 28 separate institutes and centers responsible for biomedical and health-related research. The Office of the Director oversees the 27 institutes/centers, sets policies, and coordinates activities. Nestled within the United States Department of Health and Human Services (the cabinet level department at the federal level whose motto is “Improving the health, safety, and well-being of America”), NIH is the primary agency for health related issues in this country: Read more
Where does $1 to NutritionFacts.org go?
The reason we don’t see ads on TV for broccoli is the same reason groundbreaking research on the power of foods and eating patterns to affect our health and longevity gets lost and buried in the medical literature–there’s no profit motive. It may not make anyone money, but what if our lives would profit?
Those are the words often spoken by Dr. Michael Greger, M.D., a physician, author (How Not To Die), and internationally recognized speaker on nutrition, food safety, and public health issues. In 2003, the non-profit NutritionFactsOrg. Inc (Nutrition Facts) was established as a 501 (c) 3 to educate the public on preventing and reversing disease based on nutrition with seed money from the Jesse and Julie Rasch Foundation. Nutrition Facts is now supported by individual donors to keep the organization going. Read more
