Introducing Ben and Jerry’s Non-Dairy “Ice Cream”

Be one in a million.

Ben & Jerry’s of Burlington, Vermont recently started making “ice cream” with almond milk instead of dairy products which has shoppers scavenging for pints that give new meaning to the word “ice cream.” Dairy-free, vegan, non-GMO, and Fair Trade certified, Ben & Jerry’s new frozen desserts are disappearing off the freezer shelves as fast as they can be restocked. Mocha Almond Fudge Bars

Do you like creamy ice cream, thick fudgey sauce, chocolate, and almonds? If the answer is yes, you’re in for a treat. A Mocha Almond Fudge Bar by So Delicious is as good as the name sounds – rich, creamy, decadent, and so delicious. A non-dairy frozen dessert (technically, these bars are not ice cream because they are made with almond milk instead of milk from a cow), the Mocha Almond Fudge Bars taste every bit like yummy ice cream covered in chocolate and crunchy roasted almonds. So Delicious Cashew Milk “Ice Cream”

For the past several years, most non-dairy ice cream has been made from coconut milk, which is delicious but you have to like coconut because no matter what the flavor is, coconut tends to dominate. They can’t call it ice cream because there are no dairy products used to make it but trust me, it’s ice cream. Read more »

Although picky about yogurt (a small “milkerie” – a dairy and cheese maker –  in Schonreid, Switzerland makes the most delicious creamy yogurt in the world), the thought of never having that slightly sweet, tangy creamy treat again left me momentarily sad. Call it yogurt grief. Read more »

Blueberry Coffee Crumb Cake

Coffee Cake is generally meant to be enjoyed with a cup of coffee or tea but this Blueberry Coffee Crumb Cake is delicious with any drink any time of the day.  Inspired by Thug Kitchen’s recipe for Blackberry Lemon Buckle, the recipe for Blueberry Coffee Crumb Cake is a simple variation that calls for less fruit (which makes a cake instead of a buckle), blueberries instead of blackberries, omits the ginger, and calls for the use of unsweetened cashew milk instead of any non-dairy milk.  Read more »

Date Almond Cake

Pan de Dátil Almendrado is Spanish for  “Date Almond Cake” – a freshly pressed “cake” handmade in Valencia, Spain with two ingredients:  dates and Marcona almonds. The two contrasting flavors and textures of sweet, chewy dates and rich, crunchy almonds makes for a simple and delicious dessert that is both sweet and savory, and completely different from what Americans think as traditional “cake.” Read more »
