Where Does $100 to the Cancer Alliance of Help and Hope Go?
The Cancer Alliance of Help and Hope (CAHH) is a 501 (c)(3) established in 2003 in Palm Beach County to primarily provide emergency financial assistance to help cancer patients and their families. They basically help people meet basic non-medical needs, such as rent, mortgage, and/or car payments, car insurance, health insurance, and utilities (in an amount of up $10,000 per family).
Modeled after a non-profit established in Naples, Florida, CAHH has been a relatively small (and still is) organization that brought in a new Executive Director (Stanton Collemer) in 2016 to grow the organization. Operating out of an office in Palm Beach, the organization appears to be focused on raising funds in a town known for its fundraising and charity support. Read more 
Executive Salaries at St. Jude’s (2017)
When some people think of St. Jude’s, they associate the organization with the children’s research hospital but St Jude’s is actually two organizations: the children’s hospital (St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital) which provides research and medical care, and the fundraising organization (ALSAC which stands for American Lebanese Syrian Associated Charities). Although most non-profits do not separate fundraising from services, St. Jude’s does so both organizations need to be analyzed when looking at “St. Jude’s.” Read more
Executive Compensation at City of Hope
When some people hear the words “City of Hope” they think of a cancer treatment center in California but there is so much more to the organization than what those words describe. Specifically, there are four 501 (c) (3)’s: the main organization (City of Hope), the medical center (City of Hope National Medical Center) that provides hospitalization, the foundation (City of Hope Foundation) that provides physician services and the research institute (Beckman Research Institute) that does medical research.
It is important to understand the direct controlling entity of the Medical Center, Foundation, and Research Institute is City of Hope. Although these organizations are separate organizations with different purposes, they are all located in Duarte, California and are related so it is difficult to analyze one without looking at the others.
When looking at executive compensation, many of the most highly compensated executives receive compensation from more than one of the City of Hope organizations. Therefore, the list of the most highly compensated individuals from each of the four organizations will be listed followed by a detailed list at the end of the post of those who received compensation from 3 or 4 of the organizations and what the compensation was. Most people don’t think about radon until they are buying or selling a house. How are Donations Spent at the Robin Hood Foundation?
The Robin Hood Foundation (RHF) is not a “rob from the rich, give to the poor” organization although RHF is known for having a wealthy Board of Directors who financially support the organization so that donations can be used to help alleviate poverty in New York City. How does RHF do this? Primarily by providing grants to other non-profits in the city who work to alleviate poverty by providing food, shelter and health services along with education so that people can lift themselves out of poverty. Executive Compensation at the Robin Hood Foundation
The Robin Hood Foundation (RHF) – a 501 (c) (3) based in New York City – is an organization that primarily awards grants to organizations fighting poverty by providing food, shelter, and healthcare and by helping people lift themselves out of poverty. They do this primarily by awarding grants (in 2017, the organization collected $121 million in revenue and awarded $115 million in grants).

Caesar Salad Revisited
The classic Caesar Salad was one of my favorite salads for decades but after adopting a plant-based diet, this Mexican (yes, the Caesar Salad originated in Mexico) salad was no longer an option.
I would be less than honest if I didn’t admit I missed this classic side dish. But, not for long because I figured out how to make a tangy and creamy Caesar Salad without the eggs, anchovies, Worcestershire sauce, and parmesan cheese. At first, I relied on store-bought vegan salad dressings but most had a lot of oil, which I try to minimize and then, I realized two things: one, I could make my own creamy dressing using raw cashews; and two, Follow Your Heart® Dairy Free Parmesan makes the salad taste more authentic. Shepherd’s Pie (Vegan)
Shepherd’s Pie – that quintessential British favorite made with lamb, vegetables, and spices in a gravy sauce topped with mashed potatoes – is one of Britain’s most well-known comfort foods. Tradition dictates that a Shepherd’s Pie cannot be a Shepherd’s Pie without lamb (if beef is used, then the dish is called Cottage Pie) but I beg to differ.
A Shepherd’s Pie made with a variety of vegetables, beans, and spices in a vegetable broth sauce topped with mashed potatoes is one of the all-time great variations of this traditional favorite.
