Christopher Elbow Chocolate Turtles

by Anne Paddock

There is a running debate in our home over which Christopher Elbow Chocolate Turtles are better – the dark chocolate or the milk chocolate. With my preference for the dark chocolate and my husband preferring the milk chocolate turtle, there is no hope for a compromise although I keep telling him that if he eats dark chocolate, he will acquire a taste for the richness, subtle differences, and the bold flavor that dark chocolate offers. He then goes into some tirade about how women always want to change men and I realize there is an upside to him not enjoying dark chocolate turtles:  I don’t have to share. Dark_Fleur_Final

Christopher Elbow is the chocolatier behind Christopher Elbow Artisan Chocolate – a gourmet chocolate shop based in Kansas City, Missouri where all the chocolates are hand-crafted in small batches to ensure the highest standard of freshness and flavor that Chris demands. With a second shop in San Francisco, 20 retailers that carry his chocolates, and an on-line store, Christopher Elbow Artisan Chocolates are immensely popular. Of all the chocolates, I’ve had my husband taste, the ONLY food product he has ever asked me to re-order is the Christopher Elbow Milk Chocolate Fleur de Sel Turtles.FLEUR-TURTLE-DT1

There are four types of Christopher Elbow Turtles:

Dark Fleur de Sel Turtles: A chewy, crunchy, sweet and salty delight made with roasted pecans and soft buttery caramel enrobed in 63% dark chocolate, and topped off with French Grey Sea Salt.

Milk Fleur de Sel Turtles: Crunchy roasted pecans surrounded by buttery caramel enrobed in milk chocolate and topped off with a sprinkle of French Grey Sea Salt.

Dark Venezuelan Spice Turtles:  The same dark chocolate turtle as described above except this sweet, salty, and spicy treat is topped off with a sprinkle of a chili-spice blend instead of salt.

Milk Venezuelan Spice Turtles: The same milk chocolate turtle as described above except this sweet, salty, and spicy treat is topped off with a sprinkle of chili-spice blend instead of salt.

The turtles are large – 1.4 ounces or 41 grams – and are sold six to a box (8.4 ounces) for $16 plus shipping. To order on-line, go to the company website:  www.elbowchocolates.com.  A box of Christopher Elbow Chocolate Turtles makes a wonderful Valentine’s Day gift for that special someone.
