The Piebox

by Anne Paddock

Transporting a pie is never an easy task, especially if the pie is deep dish, warm or topped with chiffon. Cardboard boxes are flimsy, Tupperware containers seem to be better at storing a pie, and baskets are just impractical (as cute as they look).

Professionally trained pastry chef, Adrienne Blumthal along with co-founders Carol Blumthal and Steve Metzer solved the problem by creating the Piebox: a reusable wooden pie carrier that will keep your pie safe and intact whether you’re walking, driving, biking, or even flying (yes, TSA rules allow you to carry pies and cakes through the security checkpoint: TSA Traveling with Food or Gifts).

PieboxHandcrafted with reusable raw pine by carpenters in Chicago, the Piebox is an attractive square box that measures nearly 12 inches by 12 inches with enough height (slightly more than 4 inches) to ensure that meringue topped or 9 inch deep dish pie stays intact. Just set the pie in the box, slide the top on, and go. Piebox_with_strap

The Piebox can be carried as is or with a small leather strap handle bundle designed to tote one Piebox. Sturdy, attractive, and functional, the Piebox is everything a baker wants in a pie carrier.Piebox

The Piebox can be purchased on-line directly from the company for $35. The Piebox and Small Strap/Handle Bundle can be purchased together for $50. To place an order, go to the Piebox website:
