Pereg Gourmet Grain Blends

by Anne Paddock

The most challenging part of adding grains to a diet is learning how to enhance the flavor with herbs, spices, vegetables and dried fruits. Pereg Gourmet takes the guesswork out by combining grains (farro and couscous) with just the right amount of all natural ingredients so that all you have to do is add water. In 15-20 minutes, a perfectly spiced side dish is ready to enjoy.

More than 100 years ago, Pereg Gourmet was established in Israel as a producer and seller of olive oils, hot sauces, spices, spice blends, and herbs. With no additives, preservatives, or artificial colors, Pereg Gourmet’s products spice up your cooking naturally, the way food should be. So, what better way than to blend them with farro and quinoa?Pereg_Farro_Mixes

Three types of farro blends – Garden Vegetable, Mushroom and Rosemary, Sundried Tomatoes – and six types of quinoa blends – Lemon & Herbs, Southern Style, Mushrooms, Spinach, Vegetables, and All’ Italiana – are offered in easy-to-pour 12 ounce (farro) or 10.6 ounce (quinoa) plastic containers with an aluminum lid that sell for about $7. Pereg Gourmet also sells traditional farro and quinoa (Red and White) without added spices in the same convenient container.Pereg_Quinoa

But Pereg’s Gourmet Grain Blends have more than taste, ingredients, and packaging attributes. Nutritionally, each serving of quinoa is high in protein (4-9 grams) and fiber (3-8 grams), and low in fat (2-4.5 grams). Four of the quinoa blends – Vegetables, Mushrooms, Southern Style, and All’Italiana – are low in sodium (30-75 mg) and sugar (2-4 grams) while the Lemon & Herbs and Spinach quinoa blends have 190-290 mg of sodium and 9 grams of sugar.

The farro blends have 4-6 grams of protein, 3-5 grams of fiber, 0.5-1 gram of fT, 125-170 mg of sodium, and 1 gram of sugar per serving.

Available at the company’s website (www.pereg-spices.com) where shipping is free on all orders over $30, and throughout the country at grocery stores including Whole Foods Markets.Pereg_Quinoa_Blends
