Gelato Fiasco: Vegan Options

by Anne Paddock

Inspired by Italy. Perfected in Maine.

With summertime around the corner,  Italy’s version of ice cream – gelato – is a refreshing alternative on hot summer days. With an emphasis on texture and flavor: gelato has a softer texture (than ice cream) that allows the flavor to come through more strongly. Although most gelato contains milk (as opposed to cream), Gelato Fiasco offers four (4) dairy-free options: Dark Chocolate Noir Sorbetto, Ripe Mango Sorbetto, Raspberry Truffle Sorbetto, and Banana Stracciatella.

Smooth and creamy (really, truly, honestly), Gelato Fiasco’s dairy-free options are of a style that dates back several centuries to Italy. The star of the show is the flavor – dark chocolate, mangos, raspberries, and bananas. Dense – but not heavy, the dairy-free gelatos are made with minimal ingredients:Gelato_Fiasco_Dark_Chocolate_Noir_Sorbetto

Dark Chocolate Noir Sorbetto:  Made with water, cane sugar, cocoa (nearly a cup), organic soy lecithin, and sea salt. For those who appreciate the deep rich flavor of cocoa.Gelato_Fiasco_Ripe_Mango_Sorbetto

Ripe Mango Sorbetto:  Made with Alphonso mangos, water, cane sugar, lemon juice, organic soy lecithin, and sea salt. Super smooth and creamy, this gelato is delicious plain or with slice fruit.raspberry-truffle-sorbetto

Raspberry Truffle Sorbetto: Made with raspberries, water, cane sugar, chocolate truffles (chocolate chips, sugar, unsweetened chocolate, cocoa butter, soy lecithin, vanilla, coconut oil, coconut milk, sea salt), organic soy lecithin, and sea salt. Chocolate and berries just seem to go together in this perfect blend of gelato.

Banana Stracciatella:  Made with bananas, cane sugar, water, chocolate chips (sugar unsweetened chocolate, cocoa butter, lecithin, and vanilla), lemon juice, sea salt, and organic soy lecithin. Creamy banana and crunchy pieces of chocolate make for a wonderful treat.

No mixes, no powders, no emulsifiers, no artificial flavors, colors, flavors, or preservatives. Just high quality ingredients that are recognizable on the ingredient label. Hand-packed into pint-sized containers (that weigh more than a pound), Gelato Fiasco dairy-free choices are simply scrumptious. So dig in and scoop your favorite flavor into an ice cream dish and enjoy.

Gelato Fiasco grocery pints are sold at more than 2,000 grocery stores nationwide for about $7.99 a pint. The pints can also be ordered directly from the company in Maine through their on-line store: www.shop.gelatofiasco.com. 6 pints are $60 plus $13 shipping (for locations in the northeast).Gelato_Fiasco
