So Delicious Cashew Milk “Ice Cream”

For the past several years, most non-dairy ice cream has been made from coconut milk, which is delicious but you have to like coconut because no matter what the flavor is, coconut tends to dominate. Recently So Delicious – a leader in non-dairy products – released a line of cashew milk frozen desserts that taste just like ice cream. They can’t call it ice cream because there are no dairy products used to make it but trust me, it’s ice cream. Read more »

Finger Lakes Fresh Multigrain Tortillas

Tortillas are one of those products that always look healthy and delicious sitting on the grocery store shelves but sometimes fall short in the ingredient department. Not so with Finger Lakes Fresh Multigrain Tortillas which are made from a blend of locally grown grains. All natural with no preservatives, dough relaxers, or added sugar, these delicious tortillas are ideal to use for wraps, burritos, quesadillas, enchiladas, chips, tortilla bowls, and as a crust for pizza. Kite Hill Yogurt

Finally you can enjoy creamy, almond milk yogurt made with vanilla beans, California peaches, mouth-watering strawberries, wild Maine blueberries, or simply on its own as delicious plain yogurt.

Giving up dairy products sometimes means giving up a few long time favorites.  For me, one of those favorites was yogurt. Although picky about yogurt (a small “milkerie” – a dairy and cheese maker –  in Schonreid, Switzerland makes the most delicious creamy yogurt in the world), the thought of never having that slightly sweet, tangy creamy treat again left me momentarily sad. Call it yogurt grief. Read more »

Sweet Caramelized Onions

Caramelized onions compliment so many foods with their earthy sweet flavor but require a healthy dose of patience to make because the whole secret to making this delicious side dish is time. Onions needs to be cooked slowly over low heat to allow the moisture and sugars to release and turn slices of translucent crunchy onion into soft brown caramelized rings. Turning the heat up won’t hurry the process because caramelization requires slow, steady heat (almost sounds like a life lesson). So, when time is limited, consider buying Sweet Caramelized Onions by the Gracious Gourmet. Read more »

Date Almond Cake

Pan de Dátil Almendrado is Spanish for  “Date Almond Cake” – a freshly pressed “cake” handmade in Valencia, Spain with two ingredients:  dates and Marcona almonds. The two contrasting flavors and textures of sweet, chewy dates and rich, crunchy almonds makes for a simple and delicious dessert that is both sweet and savory, and completely different from what Americans think as traditional “cake.” Read more »

Le Pain des Fleurs Crispbread

Just the words “Le Pain des Fleurs” make me think of the South of France where rolling fields of lavender and flowers always seem to be in bloom. Meaning “the bread of flowers,” Le Pain des Fleurs are organic, gluten-free, low sodium, low-fat, dairy, egg, wheat, and soy-free crisp breads that are crunchy, wholesome, and delicious as is or topped with tapenade, jam, chopped vegetables, cheese, hummus, tabbouleh, or your favorite spread. In a few words: France’s answer to Melba Toast. Read more »

Storye Rye Bread

Storye Rye Bread is made in a baking facility that has a serious relationship with both rye and wood.  It all starts with the rye which is made from the sturdiest grains harvested in the harsh climate of northern Europe where the short summers will only accommodate the heartiest grains capable of growing explosively over the short growing season. Packed with nutrients, these rye grains make a wholesome bread simply by mixing the unbleached rye flour with scalding water and adding rye malt, a little leavening from previous batches, a bit of sugar, caraway seeds, and salt.
