Rawmantic Bars

by Anne Paddock

If there is one product that has commanded more shelf space in recent years, it’s the energy/protein/snack bar.  From a one shelf allocation in the cookie aisle of grocery stores years ago to a partial grocery aisle today, bars have become the go-to supplement for millions of Americans.

Although bars are convenient, most of them have too much sugar and/or unhealthy ingredients, or just taste awful.  For me, it got to the point that the only time I packed a bar was if I was going for a hike or a road trip because the alternative was worse – no food or SAD (Standard American Diet) food.

Enter the Rawmantic Bar:  truly delicious and nutritious bars that are crunchy, moist, and full of fiber and nutrients. Each of the 9 flavors is enrobed in cocoa butter which makes the bar seem like a guilty pleasure. Except there is nothing to feel guilty about because the bars are:

  • made with organic ingredients
  • whole food
  • plant-based
  • fair-trade
  • dairy-free
  • egg-free
  • lactose-free
  • gluten-free
  • preservative-free
  • artificial flavor-free
  • mostly raw

My favorite is the Fitness Bar – a sugar-free, nutrient dense decadent bar enrobed in pure organic raw chocolate that is 98% raw and made with all organic ingredients:  almonds, walnuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, 100% dark chocolate chips, arrowroot, puffed buckwheat, tapioca, cacao butter, cacao powder, and raw chocolate protein powder made from peas, quinoa, chia seeds, and amaranth.  Every time I enjoy one of these bars, I feel like I’m eating a crunchy candy bar.  Each 2.2 ounce bar has 130 calories, 12 grams of fiber, 10 grams of protein, 8 grams of fat, 64 milligrams of sodium, and 0 grams of sugar.

The other 8 flavors include:

  • Mixed Berry
  • Vanilla*
  • Vegan Vanilla*
  • Carob
  • Matcha
  • Coconut
  • Nut-Free
  • Chocolate

The only difference between the vanilla and vegan vanilla is that the vanilla contains raw organic honey.

The bars come in the standard 2 ounce size ($5 each) and a mini 1 ounce size ($3).  Each bar is individually wrapped.

Handmade in New York by Rawmantic Chocolate, Rawmantic bars can be purchased at the company’s store in New York City (1052 1st Avenue at 57th Street) or on-line directly from the maker.  Shipment is quick – my orders have arrived in 2-3 days.  Note that many stores, especially in the New York metropolitan area carry the bars but I’ve found the most thrifty way to buy them is to buy from the maker directly at
