Mavuno Harvest Organic Dried Fruit
The story of Mavuno Harvest began when Phil Hughes served as a Peace Corps volunteer in a tiny village in Kenya. The population was primarily dependent upon agriculture for their livelihood but there was little infrastructure to get many of the products from the farm to the consumer which meant that many farmers sold their crops at below market prices.
Seeing an opportunity for both the farmers and the consumers, trailblazer Hughes created Mavuno (meaning “yield”) Harvest by working with small farming cooperatives to take organically grown fruit, dry it, and package it for the consumer. Read more
Cabernet Estate Reserve® Tomatoes
Low in calories and rich in fiber, it’s a crisp, healthy pick, as easy to reach for as your favorite glass of wine.
Cabernet is often described as complex, full-bodied with dark fruity flavors which is exactly how a Cabernet Estate Reserve® Tomato can also be described. Never heard of the Cabernet Estate Reserve Tomato®? Village Farms International – a Canadian company that specializes in greenhouse grown produce – grows Cabernet Estate Reserve® Tomatoes – a beautiful brown cherry tomato that is very complex starting with the color: a deep wine hue with shades of vine. The texture is semi-crisp and the flavor is deeply earthy with very sweet overtones – which is how a sommelier could also describe a Cabernet. Read more
Dimples (the fruit, not the adorable result of a smile)
A Dimple is a sweet, easy-to-eat seedless Mandarin orange that is nutritious and delicious. The Kiwiberry
The kiwiberry is the ultimate popper.
Kiwiberries arrived in grocery stores this week so grab a half pint container while you can. If you’ve never heard of a kiwiberry, then you’re not alone.
Relatively new to the US, a kiwiberry is a small green fruit (about the size of a cherry tomato or a large green olive) with a smooth (no fuzz) edible skin and a concentrated very sweet kiwi flavor that will have you popping them in your mouth as fast as you can chew them (which is really fast). Because of their size, the kiwiberry can be eaten like a grape but the little green fruits can also be cut in half or quartered and added to a fruit salad. Read more
Blackberries: They Finally Got The Memo
I love berries. Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, anything with an “eerie” in it. ~Jordin Sparks
Anyone who tastes a sun-kissed berry picked at the peak of ripeness doesn’t want to settle for that once a year fix (i.e. raspberries in July, blueberries in August, etc) so growers had to figure out a way to give consumers the most popular berries – strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries – throughout the year.
In the early days, berries looked just like their summer counterparts but lacked flavor and sweetness so growers went back to the drawing board and figured out which varieties were not only hearty but flavorful so that berry lovers can enjoy a bowl of fresh berries every month of the year. FIKA Raspberry
FIKA Raspberry is what most people would describe as “raspberry jam” although the word “jam” is not on the label (which may be because the FDA defines how the words “jam,” “jelly,” “preserves,” and “spread” can be used on labels in the detailed Code of Federal Regulation Title 21).
Made in small batches in Tribeca in New York City, FIKA Raspberry contains exactly three ingredients: raspberries, sugar, and lemon; and tastes absolutely fruity scrumptious. Read more
