Sukhi’s Potato Samosa

Samosas – flaky pastries with savory fillings – are a popular finger food in the Middle East and Asia, especially India and Pakistan where the fillings are often made of potatoes, onions, peas, lentils, and sometimes poultry or meat. In the United States, samosas are widely available at Indian restaurants, supermarkets, and most recently, at grocery stores in the frozen food section under the name of Sukhi’s Gourmet Indian Foods: Indian Bites. The Vermont Common Cracker

When it comes to flavor, common does not mean ordinary.

Nearly two hundred years ago in 1828, the Cross brothers of Montpelier, Vermont created the Montpelier Cracker which became known as the Vermont Common Cracker: a mild flavored, crunchy cracker often served with cheese, dips, and spreads but equally delicious with nut butters, jam, or served with soups and chowders. Although the recipe has been slightly modified to eliminate unhealthy oils and fats, the Vermont Common Cracker is essentially the same cracker first enjoyed by Vermonters and now savored by many. Bobbysue’s Nuts

Bobbysue Kobren has been making her family’s fantastic, generations-old recipe for spiced nuts  – crunchy almonds, cashews, and pecans coated with a delicate meringue, and lightly roasted with a bit of sugar, and a special blend of spices – for years but waited until 2008 to follow her entrepreneurial spirit by opening Bobbysue’s Nuts in Chappaqua, New York. Savory, slightly sweet (but not too sweet), Bobbysue’s Nuts are addicting: it’s impossible to open a jar and eat just a few nuts because one taste of these scrumptious nuts leaves you wanting more…and more….and more. Dr. Kracker Crispbreads

There is something deeply satisfying about eating Dr. Kracker Crispbreads  – large rectangular shaped crackers loaded with whole grains and seeds that possess flavor, texture, and a nutritional punch in every bite.

The rich, toasty flavor of organically grown whole grains and seeds makes these European inspired crispbreads delicious to eat right out of the box or as vehicle for bolder foods – guacamole, cheese, nut butters, dips, and spreads. Deliciously crunchy, Dr. Kracker Crispbreads are a great alternative to ordinary crackers or bread.

Taralli by Terre Di Puglia

Taralli are round Italian breadsticks, similar in texture to a crumbly cracker with a savory or sweet taste, depending on the ingredients. A delicious, crunchy pretzel-like snack that can be eaten on its own, Taralli are traditionally made with flour, extra virgin olive oil, white wine, yeast, and salt although the savory Italian rings are often flavored with fennel seeds, onion, pepper, sesame seeds, oregano, tomatoes, anchovies or poppy seeds. Seedsters

Seedsters are sprouted seed snacks made from organic sprouted flax, chia, and sunflower seeds:  three seeds packed with protein, fiber, healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals. Conceived and manufactured by Doctor in the Kitchen out of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Seedsters are organic, non-GMO, gluten-free, vegan, raw, and nut-free. Crunchy and delicious, Seedsters can be sweet, savory,  or a little bit of both depending  on the variety:  Cinnamon and Currants (my favorite), Sea Salt and Black Pepper, Sweet Onion and Garlic, and Sweet and Smoky Barbecue. Yumnuts

Take the son of a cashew broker and a self-described life-long cashew nut, add two guys who used to work for a big granola company (two words: the first name is another word for “grizzly” and the other means “emperor’s clothes”),  and add a brand management guy – all of whom are athletes – and what do you have? Four guys who realized the market was in dire need of a lightly seasoned, dry-roasted cashew that makes people say “yum” as in “wow, these are delicious, please give me the whole bag so I can devour them right now.” That’s exactly what I thought when I tasted Yumnuts Cashews, of which there are five varieties: Read more »

José Andrés Potato Chips

If you asked me when I was 28 and in my wedding dress if I ever thought I would end up in my 40’s flipping my husband the bird over potato chips, I’d say you were crazy.                                                             Jenna McCarthy

Potato chips make people do crazy things and I am no less guilty especially if the potato chips are José Andrés Potato Chips – Spanish potatoes that are thinly sliced and then slow-fried, allowing the goodness and healthy qualities of the extra virgin olive oil to meld with the chips. The chips are then sprinkled lightly with Himalayan Pink Salt and packaged in an innovative bag designed to deliver the chip to you perfectly, as if just cooked. Read more »
